Red wine ingredient Resveratrol Mimics of Diet, exercise in male fat

Red wine ingredient Resveratrol mimicked the metabolic effects of diet and exercise in obese men, a small study found.

Although it does not cause weight loss, 150-milligram daily dose of Resveratrol lowering blood pressure and blood glucose levels and fatty liver in male obese after 30 days, Netherlands researchers reported today in the journal Cell Metabolism.

"It seems to make You healthy metabolically without weight," said study author Patrick Schrauwen Maastricht University in the Netherlands. "I don't think it is a weight loss drug."

Resveratrol-a compound found in grape skins, beans and dark chocolate–has made headlines in recent years for its health benefits. In 2006, Harvard researchers report their ability to counter the harmful effects of high fat diets and lowering the risk of death in mice. Has also been shown to reduce the risk of cancer and slows aging in lab model–the findings have not been replicated in humans despite soaring sales of supplements.

"It has been demonstrated in animal and cell studies have a strong effect on the metabolism of health but there are no human studies," Schrauwen said. "Our study showed that resveratrol can have beneficial effects on metabolic man."

Researchers: practice, vaccines to help fight the Flu

Now they believe even short bursts of activity, after getting a flu shot, can make a big difference.

There is no denying the benefits of regular exercise, in improving overall health, but researchers at Iowa State learn how even one time exercise can help improve immunity to flu.

"We found that people who have done only one time after receiving the vaccine has about twice the antibody response to the vaccine," said Kohut.

"If we can find ways to increase the immune response to vaccines could have a significant impact on the disease or the severity of the infection," said Kohut.
